A Prayer for Our Nation, These United States of America

The Fifth of November in the Year of Our Lord Christ Jesus - Two Thousand Eight

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for another day. Thank you for the blessings and also for the challenges of this life. We thank you for both because each brings us to our knees, prostrated either out of gratitude that wells up into praise and thanksgiving to you or out of need in petition for deliverance which only you can grant, Lord God. Whatever motivates our turning to you holds tremendous value for us not because of the various circumstances where we may find ourselves; but rather, it is in the fact that you are "I AM," and as "I AM" you yourself really are the very great reward of those who diligently seek you.

We thank you, Lord, for we can run to you for solace and salvation. We thank you God for clothing us in our right mind so that we can understand why humility is the only appropriate response to you who are all knowing, all just, and all holy God.

We bow before you, Lord, to offer up prayer for the new President of the United States of America. May you guide the new leader of our country as he takes on the position of power for our nation and also leadership of what many consider the entire free world.

We ask that you grant the President of the United States God-fearing wisdom to rule justly. Grant him discernment to guard his actions and affiliations. Grant him wise counsel that results in initiatives that serve only to honor and glorify you for the betterment of our nation and our world. Guard his tongue that his speech will be without guile, seasoned with salt and the force of a godly statesperson.

We ask for your protection over our nation, Lord. May our enemies respect our new leader and may you put into place a hedge of protection around us. We know that we do not deserve such protection. We simply cry out for you to have mercy on us, protect us, guide us, and preserve the rights and liberties of our nation and all that which is worth preserving in your eyes.

Please protect the spiritual legacy of this nation from political and economic squalor. Please thwart the plans of any who may seek to kill, steal, and destroy this nation and your people.

Grant to each of us favor in your eyes, Lord, as we embark on a new journey with the incoming Presidential and Congressional administration.

Please, Lord, make us "One Nation under God, Indivisible with Liberty and Justice for All."

It is in the matchless, redemptive name of Christ Jesus we pray. Amen!
