Light in Goshen: Chapter 2 Continued -- To the Question of Money [the Lack Thereof] - Elisha Asked the Widow, "What Do You Have in Your House?"

This question carries import, especially these days.

We will look at several passages prayerfully as we ask God for wisdom in this area.

What each of us has in our individual house, our physical dwelling which may be our architectural residence or simply our bodies, is what God has bestowed upon us to use not only to meet our obligations, but also to share with others.

I look for answers here right along with you as I have obligations to meet just like everybody else these days. Please guide us in a way that honors and glorifies You, LORD GOD. We want to shine with no shadow of debt unpaid [such as we currently have] that would serve to be a cause of shame and justification for the world to blaspheme Your name because of unpaid debt. Help Us, LORD. We pray in the Name of Christ Jesus. Amen.

I especially pray this prayer for those of us who are saddled with very large debt associated with past illnesses. LORD, You are the source of all wealth. Please show us how to satisfy our creditors. Grant us the ability to escape this captivity. In Christ we pray. Amen!

Let's see what God's Word says about this.

Our first stop, 2 Kings 4, the Holy Bible says,

"The wife of a man from the company of the prophets cried out to Elisha, 'Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that he revered the Lord.

But now his creditor is coming to take my two boys as his slaves.'

Elisha replied to her, 'How can I help you?

Tell me, what do you have in your house?'

'Your servant has nothing there at all,' she said, 'except a little oil.'

Elisha said, 'Go around and ask all your neighbors for empty jars.

Don’t ask for just a few.

Then go inside and shut the door behind you and your sons.

Pour oil into all the jars, and as each is filled, put it to one side.'

She left him and afterward shut the door behind her and her sons.

They brought the jars to her and she kept pouring.

When all the jars were full, she said to her son, 'Bring me another one.'

But he replied, 'There is not a jar left.'

Then the oil stopped flowing.

She went and told the man of God, and he said, 'Go, sell the oil and pay your debts.

You and your sons can live on what is left.'

Step #1: After asking God for God-honoring wisdom, we must take an inventory of our personal possessions and talents. [Don't overlook talents that we might have taken for granted since our youth, things that others have said that we were extremely good at but because it came so easily to us, we did nothing with it. This may well be something God has uniquely equipped you to do. Think back to your hobbies as a child. This may hold a clue or two. Pray! Pray! Pray!]

Step #2: Leverage the appropriate tools to transform what is of value into the amount and format that others can recognize as having commercial exchange potential.[Ask God to open your eyes to the divinely orchestrated opportunities that He presents to us.]

Step #3: Operate in faith. Do not diminish the power of multiplication associated with complying with God's instructions.

Step #4: Go into action in compliance with God's revealed approach to utilizing that resource. Pursue the multiplication of the God-given resource that is in the "house" with great industriousness, working with one's own hands to secure what is needed to meet obligations. Ecclessiastes 9:10 [This is how entreprenuers are made.]

Step #5: Use the money gained to pay debts and also to actively regenerate that valued resource so to live off of it.

As success occurs, let's communicate it. Email me. I would love to celebrate each case of God's gracious intervention. And, I may start a testimony page on this blog.

AMEN!
