This weekend's movie feature is, "The Last Man on Earth" which was the original basis for the "I am Legend" movie with Will Smith.
This movie was produced in 1964. It has an unsettling science fiction theme of pandemic that creates the "walking dead"--reminiscent of vampire stories.
You may rightly ask, "Why this movie for this weekend feature?"
Well, beside the fact that this movie has a number of biblical allusions pointing to the utter futility associated with being the "actively" dead, this movie has one underlying message. Exposed is the fact that the problem facing humanity is contaminated blood. The contaminated blood problem in this movie is pervasive throughout humanity, that is--with the exception of "the last man."
The revelation is that new blood--blood immune to the contaminants of this world-- when appropriated to those who are dead can restore life. What a profound biblical notion clearly absent from popular conversations of our day. What is dominating conversations all around us this weekend is not"life" but "life-style." Most speak and are at odds with each other not about the condition of the "blood" but the superficial attribute of "blood-line."
So, the plot of this movie points ultimately to the problem of people not understanding the gift of real "life" that is available through the appropriation of the curing blood. The "marginally alive" are those who are propped up having created their on concoction of artificial blood that offers temporary relief but no sustaining solution. The "marginally alive" appear as they have real life only because they look right and are conformists to prevailing norms. Those self-sufficient ones can't hear that message of need nor the availability of "true life." They believe that they have solved their problem. Those "marginally alive" in this movie are angry and self-absorbed in the project of destroying that which they are afraid of. Which brings us to another profound truth. Most evil of this life is perpetuated by fear--fear of man, fear of future, fear of loss, fear of success, fear of anything and everything, except the fear of God.
The old adage holds true despite pagan opinions to the contrary. "If you fear God, you need not fear anything else!"
As you view this movie, I suggest that you pray for all the "walking dead" and the "marginally alive" around you. Both groups are lost spiritually. Those are the people --some of which are quite lovable in the human sense or otherwise "very religious" and legalistic and even admirably accomplished by human standards. Pray for all those who have not yet accepted Christ Jesus. Pray for their salvation as if it were a matter of life and death, because it is.
I know we have a tendency to want the "bad" people, those who do hideous things, to become "good" people. Much social engineering rests upon that idea, an idea fraught with utter failure I might add.
Ravi Zacharias has been quick to point out that this transition from "bad" to "good" is not what Christ Jesus is about. What Jesus does is gives the walking dead reallife. He makes us brand new because of His shed blood for us. Newness of Life is what He has done for us. Saints!
This movie parallels the world's condition. Analogies are as close as the latest news.
We need to see the gravity of being "Lost," the "Walking Dead" and the "marginally alive." We need to see and remember it for what it is, a diabolical counterfeit to what God planned for humanity. That less-than-life condition is damnable regardless of the earth suit in which it comes. That's why this movie, this weekend.
I have said alot here, but I have not given the complete plot away.
May God Himself burden our hearts with the urgency to communicate the Gospel as a consequence of the viewing of this film.
WARNING: film contains references to pandemic and violence. Don't view if visuals tend to stay with you. And, you may want to skip the popcorn this time.
Pray, Saints! Pray to touch heaven and change earth, --Olivia M. McDonald :) <><
Now Saints, let's put all of this into perspective:
Why am I hosting this Blog?
Here is my short answer to that question. --Folks, the era in which we live supports rebellion against notions of "right and wrong” and clings to notions of preference, a rebellion against reasoned definition in favor of spurious sensation, an era where the starting point, the point of departure of argument can be anywhere including on occasion at the point of truth, but only haphazardly so, and with greater infrequency as we become further removed from the God of the Bible. It would seem that "We the People" in the generic sense are left to the futility of our thinking and the degeneracy of each subsequent act. This problem need not be so for God's people, if we but acknowledge Him. God says that if we rightly acknowledge Him, He will order our steps. This blog is dedicated to that conversation of right acknowledgement of God to His glory in Christ Jesus, Our Savior and King.

OUR STATEMENT OF FAITH ------ ONE NATION UNDER GOD
We believe the Bible to be the only inerrant Word of God. It is our only ultimate and infallible authority for faith and practice.
We believe that there is one God, meaning a united one or compound unity eternally existent in three persons; Father, Son and Holy Spirit as expressed in Isaiah 48:16-17, 9:6-7; Genesis 1:1-3.
God is omnipotent, that is, He is all-powerful.
God is omnipresent, that is, He is present throughout all Creation but not limited by it.
God is omniscient, that is, nothing is hidden from His sight.
In all things God is limited by nothing other than His own nature and character.
We believe the God we serve-- the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob-- is holy, righteous, good, severe, loving and full of mercy.
We believe in the deity of Jesus the Messiah (Yeshua Ha Mashiach) , hereafter referred to as Christ Jesus, and that He is the 'seed of the woman' as God promised in Genesis 3:15 and that His virgin birth was to be a sign to Israel of His Messiahship as stated in Isaiah 7:14 and 9:6-7. God is the Creator, Sustainer, and Governor of everything that has been made.
We believe in the true deity and full humanity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father and in His personal return in power and glory.
We believe in the full deity of the Holy Spirit, acknowledging Him together with the Father and the Son in the works of creation and redemption.
We believe that because of Adam’s sin all mankind is in rebellion against God.
For the salvation of such lost and sinful men, regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely necessary.
We believe that salvation is by grace through faith alone, and that faith without works is dead.
We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit, by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life.
We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and lost; those who are saved to the resurrection of life, and those who are lost to the resurrection of damnation.
We believe that the middle wall of partition which in times past separated Jews and Gentiles has been broken down, the strife between them eradicated by Christ Jesus, Yeshua Ha Mashiach. We believe that the new covenant body of the Lord is composed of both Jewish and non-Jewish people who have accepted Christ Jesus [Yeshua] as the Promised Redeemer and that now they are to worship together in the house of God. We believe in the partaking of the communal elements of the unleavened bread and the wine, as instituted by Christ Jesus at His last Last Supper, and that the elements are symbolic of the Messiah's death and as the ultimate Passover lamb and His resurrection.
We believe in the immersion of believers as commanded by the scriptures as an outward sign of an inward redemption experience, symbolizing the death of the old flesh and the resurrection unto the newness of life.
We believe that God is made manifest in the person of Christ Jesus.
We believe in the spiritual unity of all who believe in and call upon the name of Christ Jesus as their personal Savior and Lord.
